Learning from Tesla with AI: An Insightful Conversation I Never Thought I’d Have

When I first saw the assignment to chat with a historical figure using AI, I was skeptical. It sounded gimmicky. But once I started, it became one of the most memorable learning experiences I have had. I used MagicSchool.ai’s Character Chatbot feature to talk with Nikola Tesla, someone I have admired for years. Even though it was simulated, the interaction felt meaningful and surprisingly human. It allowed me to explore Tesla’s personality, ideas, and legacy in a way no textbook could ever offer.
The chatbot responded with thoughtful and detailed answers. I asked about his inventions, his rivalry with Edison, and his vision for the future. The responses made me think more deeply about innovation and the persistence required to push forward against resistance. I found myself genuinely engaged, not just as a student, but as a curious thinker.
After the interview, I used MagicSchool’s Writing Feedback Tool to improve my report. It gave me helpful suggestions on how to make my ideas clearer, fix awkward phrasing, and improve how the paragraphs flowed together. I took that feedback seriously and made several changes, especially in how I structured my thoughts and connected quotes from Tesla. It helped me express my ideas in a stronger and more polished way without losing my voice. Normally I do not enjoy editing, but with the AI's help, it felt more like a collaboration than a chore. As a language learner and future teacher, I can now see the power of these tools. They make learning active and personal. Students are not just memorizing facts, they are creating dialogue, developing critical thinking, and reflecting in their own voice. For language practice, this is incredibly valuable. It teaches not just grammar and vocabulary but how to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
AI still has its limitations. It can be a little too perfect or too polite. But used creatively, it opens doors. It turns passive learning into something dynamic. For me, the conversation with Tesla reminded me why I respect him so much. Despite being doubted, misunderstood, and sometimes ignored, he kept going. He had a vision for the future and never gave up on it.
Thanks to AI, I got to ask him about that vision, and in a strange but wonderful way, he answered.
What do you think of Nikola Tesla? Is there something about his life or work that stands out to you? And if not Tesla, who is your own personal idol? I would love to know.
